Through this surah (revealed in Makkah), Allah directs His servants to contemplate His favours and gifts as well as His great power that is demonstrated by His creating the heavens and the earth and the various types of categories of creatures in them.  Allah the exalted also mentions the favours he bestowed on people of Israel such as revealing the divine books to them, sending them the Messengers and granting them kingship. The proof was sent to them yet they differed among themselves after the proof came to them out of transgression against each other  as mentioned “And indeed We gave the children of Israel the scripture, the understanding of scripture and its laws and the prophethood; and provided with good things ….. Verily, Allah will judge between them on the Day of Resurrection about that wherein they used to differ” (45: 16-17)

Allah also states through this Surah that the believers and the disbelievers are never equal and He will not treat them equally in the present life and in the hereafter. Allah mentions “Worst is the judgement they make .. “(45: 21) meaning that worst is the thought that the disbelievers have a thought about Allah and His judgement  that he will make the pious and the wicked equal in  the hereafter of this life.

This surah also reveals some of the horrors of the day of the resurrection.  Allah mentions that on that day every nation would be kneeling, fearful of the tremendous calamity and events. It was said that this will occur when Hellfire would be brought forth, for she will exhale once and everyone will fall to their knees, including Ibrahim, the Khalil. He will proclaim, ‘Myself, myself, myself! Today, I will not ask you (O Allah) but about myself’. And even Isa will proclaim, ‘Today I will not ask you about Maryam, who gave birth to me’. And when the book of deeds be presented to us, “They will say: ‘Woe to us! What sort of book is this that leaves neither a small thing nor a big thing but has recorded it with numbers!” (18: 49).

It is mentioned that the angels record the deeds of the servant and then ascend to the heavens with them. There, they meet the angels entrusted with the Records  of deeds sent down from Al-Lawh Al-Mahfuz on each Night of Al-Qadr, containing what Allah has written will occur from the servants, long before He created them. They will compare the records and find out that not a single letter was added or deleted. Subhanallah, That is how accurate the recordings of our deeds shall be!

In an authentic Hadith, the prophet S.A.S said, ‘Allah the Exalted said, ‘Glory is My robe and the pride is My garment; whoever rivals Me for either of them, I will make him reside in My fire (Abu Dawood 4:350 and Muslim 4:2023) . Allah is Al-Aziz, who is never resisted or rivaled and Al-Hakim, all wise in His statements, actions, legislations and the decree he appoints. All glory and praise are due to Him, none has the right to be worshipped but He, Alone.

Allah reveals the story of the two sons of Adam, Abel and Cain in various verses throughout the Quran. In Chapter 5, verses from 27-31 talk about their story, but the experts/scholars opinion and more commentary on the same subject is being printed below as complied by the Darussalam publication in their book ‘ Stories of the Prophets’. It is mentioned by exegete’s that Adam and Hawwa had in every birth one male child and one female child. They were commanded that every son of them would marry the sister of his brother with whom she was born. No one was allowed to get married with his sister with whom he was born

Abel wanted to get married with the twin sister of his elder brother Cain. But since his twin sister was more beautiful, Cain wanted to keep his twin sister for himself. Adam asked Cain to her with Abel but he refused to do so. Then he ordered them both to offer a sacrifice and left for Makkah to perform Hajj. After Adam had left, both offered their scarifies. Abel  offered a fat lamb since he was a Sheppard. While Cain offered a bundle of worst crops he had grown. A fire came down and devoured the sacrifice of Abel, leaving the sacrifice of Cain untouched. He became angry and started threatening Abel, ‘I will kill you so that you may not marry my sister’. Abel replied, ‘Allah accepts only from those who fear Him’.

One night, Abel did not return from tending his flock. So Adam sent Cain to see what happened to him. When Cain went looking for him, he found him and he complained, ‘Your offering was accepted, but mine was not’. Cain becomes angry in the argument and hits his brother with an iron he holds in his hand thereby killing his brother. The response which Abel showed after he was threatened by his brother is a sign of his noble character and piety. He avoided himself to respond with the same threat which his brother made towards him, as is clear from this verse: ‘Yet if you stretch out your hand against me to kill me, I shall not stretch out my hand to kill you, for I fear Allah, the Lord of the worlds‘. (5: 28)

Narrates Imam Ahmad from Abdullah bin Masud R.A.A who said that prophet S.A.S said, ‘No soul is killed unjustly but the first son of Adam bears a part of that sin. Because he was the first to initiate this tradition of killing‘ (Sahih Al-Bukhari).

It is mostly encouraged that good deeds be followed by bad deeds, more appropriately that the good deeds be of the same nature as the bad deeds, for that is the most effective in cancellation. Now, such a statement does not encourage bad deeds but rather consoles that the bad deeds can be erased off by good deeds. Imagine  a situation where a person wronged himself/herself in the eyes of Allah by committing a sin, what now? How would the person recompensated for the sin? Make no mistake, for it can be done; through the following things –

I) Tawbah: Tawbah meaning repentance, is an act of seeking forgiveness of Allah S.W.T from a sin or sins (major) committed through the fulfillment of certain condition as follows:

  • An immediate stop to the committing of the sinful act(s).
  • A genuine regret, from the heart, at committing the sinful act(s).
  • Have a firm intention/resolve not to repeat the act of sin(s).
  • If the act of sin is related to violating the rights of another person, then redress the compensation of the damage/loss inflicted on that person. Example: If a person stole something from someone, the repentance is not complete until he returns the stolen goods to the rightful owner
  • Repentance must be before the time of death, if it to be accepted.

II) Istighfaar:Istighfaar meaning seeking forgiveness, is a way of asking Allah S.W.T for pardon for a minor or a major sin committed without necessarily fulfilling the conditions stated above. Istighfaar could also be done without repentance, for Allah does forgive in answer to one’s supplication even if he has not repented; however if repentance and forgiveness are combined then such a situation is ideal.

III) Good and correct actions which are Kaffaarat: Kafaaraat means expiation of sins. The kaffaarat is of two types

  • Specified Kaffaarat: These are the actions on which Sharee’ah has fixed an expiation. Examples of such Kaffaraat are those for committing intercourse while fasting in Ramadaan, for saying to one’s wife, ‘You are like a mother to me’, for violating certain prohibitions during Hajj or leaving some of its obligations or for killing game in Haram. All of these have established alloted ways to expiate sins, of four types: sacrifice, freeing a slave, charity and fasting.
  • General Kaffaraat: Hudhaifa R.A.A said to Umar R.A.A: ‘Fitnah (afflictions) are caused to a man due to his family, wealth and children; so prayer, fasting, charity, enjoying goodness and forbidding evil wipes this out. Also, five daily prayers, Friday prayer, fasting, Hajj and other actions expiate sin, regarding which it is said, ‘whoever says such-and-such or does such-and-such then he is forgiven or his previous sins are forgiven.

I will inshallah expand further on Specified and General Kaffaraat in the next part of this post since my aim is to distribute knowledge such that the interest of reading something isnt altered by the length of the post.

The world is bound to come to an end, Every creature is destined to die just as he was destined to born. Faith in the Last Day and what it contains of rewards and punishments is one of the pillars of Islam.Blessed are those who die as Believers, and May Allah guide those who still haven’t received perceived the reason of their existence.

There is no way for anyone to know the exact time of the Hour – The Judgement Day, But there certainly are some signs for every Believer to remember and seek guidance from. It was really fascinating to read about them, to cling on to some indications that Allah has allowed for his people to understand and save themselves from the fitnah accompanied by it.

Coming of the Prophet S.A.S: Verily, from the signs of the Hour was the advent of the Prophet Muhammad S.A.S. It has been confirmed from him that he said: “The hour and I were sent together and it almost preceded me (due to its closeness) “.

Increased Number of Earthquakes: From the signs of the Final Hour is an increased number of earthquakes and the sinking of the earth occurring in the east, the west, and the Arabian Peninsula.

Time Will Pass Quickly: Also, the time will become shorter. A year will be like a month, a month will be like a week, a week will be like a day, a day will be like an hour and an hour will be like burning of a dried palm leaf (i.e. a matter of seconds)

Gog and Magog People will appear: The people of Gog (Ya’juj) and Magog (Ma’juj) will come out. It is recorded in the two Sahihs from Zainab bint Jahsh that the Messenger of  Allah entered her house one day terrified. He said, ‘None has the right to be worshipped but Allah. Woe to the Arabs due to the evil that is approaching. Today a hole has opened in the barrier of the people of Gog and Magog like this (and he made a circle with his thumb and index finger).

Aboandonment of Knowledge: Also, from its signs is that knowledge will decrease and ignorance will appear, so much so that people will not even know the obligatory aspects of Islam. The prophet S.A.S said, ‘Islam will fade away like the fading of embroidery on a garment. This will continue until it will not be known what is fasting, prayer, pilgrimage rites or charity. The Book of Allah will be removed during one night and there will not remain on the face of earth a single verse of it. There will remain a group amongst the people who will be extremely old and they will say ‘We found our fathers adhering to this word – None has the right to be worshiped but Allah – therefore we say it as well.

Lying and False Prophets: With the approach of the Final Hour, lying and deceit will increase. Approximately thirty deceivers and liars will appear and each of them will claim to be a prophet.

Love of the Worlds will flourish: The necks of human beings will be stretched out towards the worldly things. The people will compete in building tall buildings and they will turn away from the religion of Allah.

When asked Abdullah bin Zaid about the ablution of Prophet S.A.S, He demonstrated the following – ‘He poured water over his hands and washed them thrice. Then he put his right hand in the pot and rinsed his mouth and washed his nose by putting water in it and then blowing it out thrice with three handfuls of water. Again he put his hand in water and washed his face thrice. After than he put his hand in water and washed his forearms upto the elbows thrice, and then he put his hands again in water and passed wet hands over his head by bringing them from the front to the back and returned them and once more he put his hands in the pot and washed his feet upto the Ankles’. Also added – Prophet S.A.S said, ‘If anyone performs wudu like mine and offers two Rakat salat during which he does not think of anything else then his past sins will be forgiven’.

Narrated Anas R.A.A: Whenever the prophet S.A.S went to answer the call of nature, he would say, ‘Allahumma inni audhu bika minal khubuti wal khaba’ith’ [O Allah! I seek refuge with you from the devils – males and females]

Narrated Abu Ayyub Al-Ansari: Allah Messenger S.A.S said, ‘If anyone of you goes to an open place for answering the nature call he should neither face nor turn his back towards the Qiblah(without a sutra); he should either face the east or the west’.

Narrated Abu Qatada R.A.A: Allah’s Messenger S.A.S said, ‘Whenever anyone of you drinks water, he should not blow/breathe in the drinking utensil. and whenever anyone of you goes to the Lavatory, he should not clean his private parts with his right hand’.

Narrated Jafar bin Amr: My father said, ‘I saw Prophet S.A.S passing wet hands over his Imama (Turban) and Khuffain (two leather socks)’

Narrated Abu Hurairah R.A.A: Prophet S.A.S said, ‘A wound which a Muslim recieves in Allah’s cause will appear on the Day of Judgement as it was at the time of infliction; blodd will be flowing from the wound and its colour will be that of blood but will smell as musk’.

Narrated Abu Sa’id Al-Khudri R.A.A: I testify that Allah’s Messenger said, ‘The taking of bath on Friday is compulsary for every Muslim who has attained the age of puberty and also cleaning of teeth with Siwak and using perfume, if available.

Narrated Abu Hurairah R.A.A: Allah’s Messenger S.A.S said, ‘When it is Friday the angels stand at the gate of Mosque and keep on writing the names of persons coming to offer their prayers, according to their arrivals.Any person who takes a bath on Friday and then goes for the Salat in the first hour i.e. early, It is as if he had sacrified a camel in Allah’s cause; and whoever goes in the secong hour it is as if he had sacrificed a cow; and whoever goes in the third hour, it is as if he had sacrificed a horned ram; and if one goes in the fouurth hour, it is as if he had sacrificed a hen; and whoever goes in the fifth, it is as if he had offered a egg’.

Narrated Salman Al-Farisi R.A.A: Allah’s Messenger S.A.S said, ‘Anyone who takes a bath and cleanse himself as much as he can and puts oil or scents himself; and then proceeds for the Salat and does not separate two persons sitting together in Mosque for the Salaat-ul-Jumuah and offer salat as much as is written for him and remains quite when the Imam delivers the Khutba, all his sins in-between the present and the last Friday will be forgiven’

Narrated Jabir bin Abdullah:’ The Prophet S.A.S used to stand by a stem of date palm-tree while delivering Khutba. When the pulpit was placed for him, we heard the stem crying like a pregnant she camel till the Prophet S.A.S got down the pulpit and placed his hand over it’.

Narrated Abu Hurairah R.A.A: Allah’s Messenger S.A.S said, ‘There is an hour on Friday and if a Muslim gets it while offering Salat and asks something from Allah, then Allah will definitely meet his demand’.

Narrated Sahl R.A.A: We never had a afternoon nap nor meals except after offering the Jumuah Prayers.

I was scanning my Book-Shelf when my eyes fell over a thin book(The Righteous Wife by Muhammad Shoomaan) there. Having decided to read it, I pulled a chair and sat down with the book in my hand.I am glad actually I caught hold of this book, for this Book enlightened my ignorant mind and faith.

Following are some of the experts from the book –
‘Allah’s Messenger S.A.S said, ‘It is not right that any human being should prostate to another human being, and if it were right for a human being to prostate to another human being I would have ordered the women to prostate to her husband due to the greatness of his right upon her’.

Abu Hurayrah R.A.A, reports that Allah’s Messenger said, ‘It is not right for a woman to fast(optional one) whilst the husband is present without his permission* ; and whatever wealth she spends in charity without his order, then half of the reward is for him.
* An-Nawawee said,’Its reason is that the husband has the right to enjoy his wife on all days, and his right is an immediate obligation and not to be denied him due to something optional not something obligatory which maybe performed at that time.

The Messenger of Allah said, If a man calls his wife to his bed and she refuses, and he spends the night angry with her, then the angels curse her until morning.’

Mu’aadh ibn Jabal R.A.A said that the Messenger of Allah said, ‘A women does not harm her husband in this world except that his wife from the large eyed hooris(al Hoorul Een) says,’Do not harm him, May Allah kill you, for he is just a passing guest with you and is about to leave you and come to us.’

As for been a Wife myself, I understand the importance of a Husband our Religion stresses on. A Husband is the one who looks after us and cares for us, Just like we do. Appreciating them and rewarding them with our Best behaviour is the least we could do, the like of which applies to a Man too. There are some good Men/Women as well as some Bad Men/Women out there, Men/Women who guide themselves through these Hadith and Men/Women to misguide themselves. Pray That Allah bestows knowledge and Understanding over every Muslim Brother and Sister, and Guide them towards the Right path, as mentioned in Quran and by our beloved Prophet S.A.S

May Allah guide every Muslim towards the right path and May every Muslim be blessed with a righteous spouse . AMEEN.
