I dream .. I Think ..

Posted on: Thursday, May 22, 2008

” I dream of something vague, I dream of something irrelevant. I dream of people whom i know, and sometimes i see people i never met or saw. I see my familiar surroundings and sometimes i find myself in a strange place. I wake up crying and terrified sometimes, while the other times I seem happy and relaxed. A dream sometimes makes sense to me, and sometimes seems absurd. Some dreams just evaporates from my memory as soon as it can, and some stays with me for a longer time, forcing me to think about what i saw. Some make me strong and confident, while others break and wound me. Dreams … What are they ? Do they hold any answers to my questions ? Or are they a figment of my imaginations ? Dreams …What are they ? … !!! ” – Maryam

They say, Dreams always mean something, Every Dream has its own meanings which can be understood to those only who can interpret it. How true is that ?

It makes me wonder, Can a dream be considered as a form of communication and guidance from Allah ?? Does a Dreams bring us a message, waiting to be understood by us OR just Is our mind the culprit, playing games with us ? I have tried reading many Islamic books researching about this particular area, where I came across a book about Interpretations of Dreams, which says ‘That All you see in dreams is divided into two sorts :One vision is from Allah and another one suggested by Satan.’ Indeed it can be considered that some of the dreams holds a way of guidance and message from Allah and sometimes its a filthy trick by Satan.

I am actually glad that I have found a book, which has various interpratation of dreams seen by a Human being. I always wanted find answers, always wanted to know what my dreams hold ? Specially the ones, which are still afresh in my memory, although they have been sitting in my mind for a long time. Maybe the book can help me, a bit … ๐Ÿ™‚

What do you think friends ? Isnt a ‘Dream’ a strange thing and a honourable way of getting a personal message from Allah; sometimes guiding us, sometimes giving us glad tidings and sometimes preventing us from committing a Sin/Mistake ?

One of my friends in a discussion forum informed me of a link that explains a reasonably good working theory on why we dream, that may interest you.
http://www.why-we-dream.com/

I find following comment there:
โ€œDiscover the connection between emotions, dreams and nightmares

HAVE YOU ever wondered why we evolved to dream? Or why dreams can seem so real and meaningful when we are experiencing them but are mostly forgotten? Or why, when we do manage to remember a dream, it often seems so weird?

This site offers the answers to this age-old mystery – the function of dreaming – as well as explaining the connection between dreaming, depression, schizophrenia and hypnosis. It also explains the overwhelming importance to evolution of the REM state.

When something evolves it is usually for a good reason, and dreaming is no different.

Psychologist Joe Griffin explains why, far from being a mere by-product of ‘brain down-time’ as some people think, dreaming plays a central role in keeping us sane and in some circumstances, it can quite literally, drive us mad. โ€

One may however question if the information has been drawn by application of the ScientificMethod in its stricts sense as in Physics?

Religious point of view might be different.

Well, to my kowledge dreams are divided into three sections. One is a dream from Allah, the other is a dream from Shaytan, and the third is a subconscious dream. I do believe people recieve inspiring dreams from Allah personally. Especially when they are going through hardships and difficulties. they need reassurance, and where else to recieve the best reassurance then from the Almighty Right? but i also think that most dreams are just subconscious. have u ever noticed when u keep thinking about a certain topic or thought, u end up dreaming about it too. And the dream by shaytan well, they’re those nightmares we sometimes have that make u sweat with fear and fright. My mom says that when u have one of these dreams its from the devil so don’t relate it to anyone.

I think dreams hold a lot more meaning than people think….the dejavus in life are all something that we have dreamt about somewhere….in the past…

pay a little more attention and you predict the future…

I think dreams are a product of communication of our internal energy with the energy of universe without forced filteration from our mind. ๐Ÿ™‚

hey maryam:)

i think dreams can be amazing things, but the interpretation of them can be quite scary

i prefer just to take them as they are and forget about them, expecially if they are slightyl scary! xx

Salam Maryam,

Interesting topic my dear ๐Ÿ™‚

yes dreams can be a reassurance from allah , to comfort you . Some dreams are blatantly from satan . Although I am surprised because some dreams are just junk that the mind needs to clear up that is what I have always known . A lot of my dreams are just junk , some dreams I dream when I am in extreme depression .So I dream rubbish , alhamdullah that type of thing has not happened to me for a while .

The part of dreams being a form of reassurance reminded me of something. The Mujahideen and Muslims Prisoners who have been imprisoned because of their faith often narrate that they would have dreams more often while in prison or while going through difficult times and these dreams would make them more steadfast. Also, dreams are a part of Prophethood, I found that to be very interesting.

The Prophet sallalahu alayhi wasallam also told us, “Nothing is left of prophethood except glad tidings.” Those with him asked, “What are glad tidings?” He replied, “Good dreams.” (Sahih Al-Bukhari)

Hi friends!
You people are very right that dreams are very useful. We see bad dreams or junc one when we are don’t have a purified self. I we have purified selves then we could see good dreams which our MessengerProphet Muhammad SAW
has described to be 1/40 th of the prophethood. If one could get purified more one could reach the extent and become a Siddeeq like Maryam mother of Jesus and get revelation from GodAllahYHWH. If one get even more purified with the grace of GodAllahYHWH one could become like JesusYeshuaIssa or could become the PromisedMessiah 1835-1908 as prophesised by our truthful MessengerProphet Muhammad SAW.

Paarsurrey .. I am sorry But I have got to say this. Whatever you wrote I am not sure where you collected it from, But its Nonsense. There’s no promised prophecy .. !!!
You or me or anyone can never be a prophet, I wonder where you find these informations from ? Thats totally absurd. Its not correct to speak of such things without the correct knowledge.
I have visited your blog too, and what you wrote there is also wrong in the Islam point of view.
I advise you to read more AUTHENTIC books and widen your knowledge in the right direction … !!!!

it may sound funny but somehow i never remmember any of my dreams, though i feel that throughout the night i only dreamt, but the moment i get up i dont remember anything, Isnt it weird.

hey, I would like to know the name of the book that has interpretation of the dreams? What are your impressions of the book, are the interpretations reliable?

Let me know what you felt about Thousand Splendid Suns after you finish it.

paarsurrey – just read your comment ! were the hell did you get that stuff from !? hahah im cracking up here sorry !

yeh dreams are comfort from allah , BUT NO ONE AFTER THE PHROPHET SWA WILL GET REVELARTION THROUGH DREAMS NO ONE , phrophethood has ended anddreams are just their as a comfort for the believer .

Assalam-alaikam Sis Maryam,
I think Sister Julaybeeba has got it right on this one.

Bad dreams are supposed to be from Shaitan and I have read on waking we should pray authu’billah, spit over our left shoulder and turn the other way and go back to sleep.

My dad also discouraged me from relaying dreams. When I asked him if dreams can have meanings, he reminded me of the story of Prophet Yusuf (AS)

Paarsurrey … Yes, Religious point of vew can be really really different from Scientific point of view. All i Know or unerstand is, If I am suffereing from a hardship or pain, Allah will through my dream comfort me. And What a beautiful way of connection that is between Allah and His followers.

Julaybeeba … Yes, I agree with you 100% .. ๐Ÿ™‚
I meant and wrote the same.

UTP .. I am not sure whether we can predict the future or not, But we certainly are offered solace through them sometimes.

Zios … Right! And did i get it ??!!

Hema .. Yup! Its a risky business. I wouldnt want to know the meaning of all my dreams though, Only the ones which make me happy will do .. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Adikbongsu .. Thank you sweety.

Amal .. I am glad you arent dreaming anything rubbish now alhamdulillah. Yes, sometimes when our mind is filled, We often dream something funny and absurd, specially when unhappy or stressed.
Otherwise, I love to see dreams which offer comfort to me.

PurpleDrifter … That was some wonderful information. Thanks for sharing it with us all.
Yes, That hadith is pretty Interesting. I am reading the book Sahih Al-Bukhari, Can wait till i read many of such interesting and fascinating hadith’s.

Fatima .. It isnt strange Dear, Many of my relatives say the same. I actually think Its good you dont remember anything … ๐Ÿ˜‰

Poonam .. The book I a talking about is ‘The Voluminious Interpretation of Dreams’ by Ben Sirin. I cant say anything about the book yet. Its too early for that.
Yes, I shall write the review of this novel, once i finished it .. ๐Ÿ™‚

Amal … I know, I tried explaining him/her too. I was shocked and surprised at first too … ๐Ÿ˜‰

Umm Salihah … That is exactly what I said, Dreams are of two kinds – One a vision from Allah, which is a reassurance from Allah when we are suffering from hard-ships and sometimes from Shatan, who tries everything just to scare us. The best remedy for such is no to sleep before taking Allah’s name and reciting some quranic verses or Duas
Yes, Whenever we have a Bad dream, we should spit three times over our left shoulder and If you can should pray two rakat namaz.

Can/Would you please share the story your father used to relate, with us ??

Hi Maryam !

Kindly refer to your post of Sunday, May 25, 2008 at ’11:15 pm’; my response is as under:

1. Maryam:Thereโ€™s no promised prophecy .. !!!

Paarsurrey: Yes, there is a prophecy from our MessengerProphet Muhammad (S):

Yushaku man aasha minkum ianyulka eisabna maryama imamun mahduyyun, hakamun iadualun yakserus saleba WA yaktulul khinzera

One who would be alive (at that time), he would meet Issa (JesusYeshua) s/o Maryam (MaryMerium) in the position of ImamMahdi (DivineGuided), a truthful judge (among faiths/religions); he would break the Cross (with arguments) and kill the swine. (Masnad Ahmad 156/2)

Abu Hurairah narrated from the Prophet Muhammad SAW that he said:
I swear by Him in whose hands rests my life or death that you would definitely witness advent of the Ibne Maryam (Son of Mary); a truthful judge (among faiths/religions), he would break the Cross (with arguments) and kill the swine and suspend the war (for religious conversion).
(Bukhari Kitabul Anbeya, Bab Nazul-e Essa Ibne Maryam)

2. Maryam:You or me or anyone can never be a prophet, I wonder where you find these informations from ? Thats totally absurd. Its not correct to speak of such things without the correct knowledge.

Paarsurrey:One could become a Siddiq or a Siddiqua, if one is a Muslim of a high order and in that capacity angels coud descend on him/her with the Word of God or Revelation; and there is no doubt it is very much mentioned in Quran:

[66:11] Allah sets forth an example for those who disbelieve, the wife of Noah and the wife of Lot. They were under two righteous servants of Ours, but they acted treacherously to them. So they availed them naught against Allah, and it was said to them, ‘Enter the Fire, ye twain, along with those who enter it.’
[66:12] And Allah holds forth as an example, for those who believe, the wife of Pharaoh when she said, ‘My Lord! build for me a house with Thee in the Garden; and deliver me from Pharaoh and his work, and deliver me from the wrongdoing people;
[66:13] And sets forth as an example Mary, the daughter of Imrโ€บn, who guarded her chastity – so We breathed into him of Our Spirit -and she fulfilled the prophecy conveyed to her in the words of her Lord contained in His Books and she was one of the obedient.

I think this proves that the contents of my post were correct. Please don’t mind. You may differ with me but with reasons.

Thanks

Paarsurrey … I dont know what to say to you anymore. Your believes and sect is way different than mine, I suppose. I have never heard the like of the Hadith you have mentioned above EVER. I doubt they arent authentic.
Why dont you please stick only on what Allah said in Quran rather than seeking knowledge from different books ???
I aint a scholar, and niether are you. We belong to a different school of thoughts too. But i dont think you are right. Beyond that Allah knows better.
