Remembrance of Allah

Posted on: Wednesday, September 26, 2007

As we all are familiar,There are five pillars of Islam namely : Shahaadah, Salaah, fasting,Zakat and Haj.Allah fixed the length of obligatory prayers for his people just like Obligatory fasting is only in the month of Ramadan.Zakat is payable once a year.Haj is made compulsary once in alifetime if a person qualifies for it.However, for remembrance of Allah there is no time, no place and no restriction placed upon it.It can be done any time and at any place.

One of the characteristics of a believer is that he engages himself extensively in the remembrance of Allah,as said in Surah Al-Ahzab # 35 – “Verily, the Muslim men and women who are obedient (to Allah), the men and women who are truthful (in their speech and deeds), the men and women who are patient, the men and women who are humble, the men and women who give Sadaqat, the men and women who observe fast, the men and women who guard their chastity and the men and women who remember Allah much with their hearts and tongues Allah has prepared for them forgiveness and a great reward (i.e Paradise)”

One of the excellent form of remembrance of Allah is recitation of Quran, as Quran deals with the praise of Allah. It is even stated in Surah Az-Zumar – ” Allah has sent down the Best statement, a Book ( the Quran) its parts resembling each other (in goodness and truth) (and) oft-repeated.The skins of those who fear their Lord shiver from it (when they recite or hear it). Then their skin and heart soften to the remembrance of Allah. That is the guidance of Allah. He guides therewith whom He wills, and whomever Allah sends Astray, for him there is no guide.”

Narrated Abu Al-Darda,Prophet S.A.S said to his companions, ” Should i tell you something that is superior to all your deeds, which is readily accepted by Allah, and raises your status with Allah ? He added, It is better that you giving away all your wealth in the path of Allah, which is even better than you engaging yourselves in fights against the foes of Allah, when you kill them and they try to kill you ?” The companions said, “Please advise us about that.” Muhammad S.A.S said, “Remembrance of Allah.”

This reminds me of an another Hadith where Allah says, “Whosoever remembers me in his heart, i remember him in my heart. Whosoever remembers me in a group, I remember him in a group (i.e angels) which is far superior to his group.”

According to Allah the best word to remember him are “Subhannallahi wa bihamdihi” and the best words to praise him is “Subhanallah”(33 times),”Alhamdulillah”(33 times) and “Allahuakbar”(34 times) . Whosoever recites these words at his bedtime will never feel lazy or tired. It is even suggested to recite these words the same number of times each time you finish you prayer. For more Duas, please visit www.freewebs.com/muslimwealth

Now, You may be wondering Which is the best possible way of Remember Allah, Allah specifies it in the Quran Surah Al-Araf # 205 – ” And remember your Lord within yourself, humbly and with fear and without loudness in words in the morning, and in the aftrenoons and be not thoe who are neglectful.”

May Allah keep our tongues wet with his remembrance.Ameen.
