Knits and Purls
Its been a very long time since I have posted anything about knits and Purls. I get many visitors in a day, searching for free patterns available on my site for various knitting projects. I havent yet started making my own patterns, but have many books, with all the possible combinations of knits and purls, from where i try and knit them.
There is an amazing site, which helped me with my earlier knitting. It has many detailed videos, which helped me understand every stich better.To visit this site, click here. As a starter, do not attempt any lenghty or big project. Start with a simple project, which can boost yor confidence and your stiches grows neater too. Once, the stiches are neat in lines, start with whatever project you wish.
Long before i bought books, I used the patterns available here. They offer many free patterns for almost everything, which are usually quite simple.
If you want to knit a scarf, An afghan, A shawl, or anything, remember to jot down the pattern first, work out the stiches(using the calculator), cast on the correct number of stiches(which forms the base), use the suggested numbered needle (A aluminium or a bamboo needle is good for a starter) and always have a border too, to avoid it getting curled all over itself.
Now, making a simple border is quite easy, What every your number of stiches are, Add eight more stiches to it. Let me explain. Suppose My pattern is as -
Cast on 10 stiches.
Row 1- K2,P2,K2,P2,K2
Row 2- P2,K2,P2,K2,P2
then, add four more stiches each side as follows -
Cast on 18 stiches
Row 1 to Row 4 - Knit
Row 5- K4,K2,P2,K2,P2,K2,K4
Row 6- K4,P2,K2,P2,K2,P2,K4
End the project knitting more 4 rows as we started it, making it a four side border. if you want a two side border, then dont knit the first four and the last four rows. Simply start with your pattern but with adding four stiches at the start and end of a row {like - Row 1- K4,K2,P2,K2,P2,K2,K4; Row 2- K4,P2,K2,P2,K2,P2,K4}
I shall be posting my free patterns too inshallah. Anyone has any doubt or wanna contact me, leave me a comment(along with your email id), And i shall write to you as soon as i can. Till then Happy knitting…. ![]()
